A subcooler is typically located at the bottom of the condenser. The primary function of the subcooler is to enhance the efficiency of the refrigeration cycle by ensuring that the refrigerant is fully condensed and cooled before it proceeds to the expansion device or evaporator. When the refrigerant leaves the condenser and is still in a liquid state but warmer than the designated saturation temperature for that pressure, the subcooler extracts additional heat from it, effectively lowering its temperature.

This placement at the bottom of the condenser allows the refrigerant to pass through the subcooler after exiting the condenser coils, maximizing its cooling potential and improving the overall efficiency of the air conditioning or refrigeration system.
